Coaster Refined

 Coaster Refined

I decided to go ahead with my spider concept but make it so that the legs are movable and it's more 3D than just a cut out of a spider shape. I also decided to do acrylic for the material because I feel that it would be the best for the black colour, but also since it's plastic you can use it like a whiteboard and draw fun faces.

The Parts
I made it so that the "head" interlocks with the base. There's 6 layers that stack to make it all complete.

I made these guidelines to create the spaces for each leg.

I wanted the legs to spin on a cylinder, but you can't laser cut a cylinder so I decided I would stack circles (the same size as the holes in the legs) to make them. I made a rectangle the size of 6 circles stacked up and put it where the legs would go to create space for the cylinder. This way I knew everything would fit. Then the top of these are enclosed to make sure the cylinders don't come off.

The coaster with a glass

The coaster with a mug, I created a space in the back in case of mug handles.
